I'll admit I liked American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance in the first few seasons because I'd watch the auditions and couldn't help but laugh at how bad some of the people were when they thought they were so good. Then in the later seasons though, they seemed to pretty much stop showing most of the bad auditions and I had less of a reason to watch. It's not to say I have anything against Talent Shows or whatever, it's just when it's not really your thing, the bad auditons keep your attention better than the good ones.
When Taylor hicks won, the show lost its appeal imo. Idk what Americans were thinking, but ew. I also didn't really like the bad auditions. At first it was funny cuz it was a new concept, but it got old and nothing was shocking anymore. I guess other people felt the same cuz they showed less bad auditions towards the end. Also, they should have cancelled it the moment Simon left.
I still love SYTYCD. My only issue with it is that it's during the summer and I usually take that time to catch up on all the shows I couldn't keep up with over the year. Nigel is by far my favourite judge from any of these talent shows ever. He's genuine, he's sensitive and honest. I never feel like he's putting on an act (cough*simon*cough)
Oh yeah, when Simon left American Idol lost a bunch of its appeal, oddly enough. It's almost like just how he handled/reacted to things made them seem better or more enjoyable than they actually were. I was under the impression they stopped showing so many bad auditions because more people who had no intention of actually trying or getting far were like "hey, I can get on TV for a few minutes!" and the show probably didn't want to feel like their time was being wasted.
I think with SYTYCD I keep forgetting when it's on, but I'm actually a little surprised to hear Nigel's still on it. I'm not sure on everybody else here, but I kind of feel like America's Got Talent has lost its appeal over the past few years from when it started. That could just be because I can't stand Nick Cannon as a host with how he tries to get involved in the acts and tries to make everything about him, though.
